I’ve been working with Red Bull on their Spot Check skateboard event since it’s inception and it’s been a blast to be able to see it’s growth and development year on year! The idea is simple - fans vote on their favourite skate spots in each locale and then the Red Bull team skate the winning ones, always fun and like a big skate party across the city.
From the initial Barcelona event to taking in multiple cities across the world, it’s always been about real skateboarding at it’s heart - sessioning streets and parks and getting the local crowds involved in celebrating their favourite spots!
This year we wanted to capture the essence of the event with the key visual expressing what happens at a Spot Check event - taking over the town and having a skate party!
The first year logo was all about showing the premise straight away as this was a new event - Street skateboarding, locations around the city and of course favourite spots and features. I created the lock up with the location pin as fans and followers would be able to send pins of locations to their friends to get the low down on where it was going off, then I illustrated some of Barcelona’s most iconic skate and features and the city’s grid map, along with dynamic type with a touch of grit and of course the skater shredding it!
Following on from the success of the first year we’ve now integrated new global guidelines and locale information into each events’ logo, letting the Spot Check brand be it’s own identifier.
