That time of year has arrived when Dark Star set about letting all you hop heads know what their line up for next year is going to be. Once again I was invited to create the Tasting Notes, with this years theme being Leonardo Da Vinci!
Here's my hand drawn (and some Wacom drawn) offering. Each quarter there is a new A6 insert containing the upcoming monthly specials. I even managed to get them to emboss the wax seal so it's all nice and touchy feely!
Some more work I did a while back for Dark Star labelled special edition bottled ales.
We wanted to highlight the playful nature of the company along side their artisan brewing. Big hops providing a textural backdrop for some fun lettering.
This was some work I did a while back for Dark Star, They wanted some Dark Star special edition bottle labels for a new release.
We wanted to highlight the playful nature of the company along side their artisan brewing. This one was concentrating the handmade aspect of the ale of course not forgetting the hops!
Back before christmas Dark Star Brewing Co asked me to help them with their 2012 tasting notes. The brief was slim, but they didn't want to influence it too much, other than a suggestion of 70s prog rock album art.
After a lot of research and concept sketching, I came up with a heavily stylised illustrated front cover with hops of course being the over riding theme, and then went all 'alternative reality' on the inside with floating hop islands, a la Avatar, rivers of beer and a tear in the fabric of time/space.
Glad to see the finished product looks great and has been finished really nicely. Check them out in a good pub near you or at the Dark Star Brewery shop. Also keep your eyes peeled for a limited edition print run in the future, I'll obviously let you know about it here first.
